Counselling & Psychotherapy

I provide a safe, confidential space to talk, explore, heal and grow. thrive. flourish.

Science tells us our thoughts influence our molecules and can therefore create disease in our bodies, in the same way as our emotions affect our health and wellbeing. We all know of the Mind-body connection, therefore the improvements in psychological well being translates into physical vitality.

As human beings, we have within ourselves all the resources we need to improve our situation. Sometimes our resources are under-developed or unused, or perhaps we don’t even know they exist. My role is to help and support you find those resources and together we can discover what needs to happen, for you to move forward. Counselling research has shown that the most important variable in a successful course of therapy is the quality of the relationship between the client and therapist. I work from a place of experiential knowing, and due to this I am able to provide a firm holding container for all that you share with me. I know how much courage it takes to open to another, so this will always be met with warmth, understanding and empathy.

My Methods

Humanistic Principles

The idea that all human beings are capable and resourceful people; able to make their own decisions and that each of us is completely unique and cannot be understood by a theory alone. This approach means that your therapist will be open and honest with you and not hide behind a professional mask or a set of hard to understand theories.

Psychodynamic Approach

The idea that we are influenced by our earlier experiences in life and that these in some way help to shape our personalities and outlook on life.

Transpersonal Psychotherapy

offers a positive, life-enriching approach to the issues people face. It can help clients to discover and understand more about themselves and their deeper nature, so they can make choices that are more true to themselves.
The transpersonal approach is a relatively new area of development in the field of psychotherapy, while drawing on centuries of theory and wisdom from both Eastern and Western traditions. Put simply, it offers a positive, creative and life-enriching attitude to the problem people encounter. rather than pushing away our difficulties, it encourages us to welcome the challenges we face. The area of difficulty itself is seen as an opportunity to grow and discover more about our deeper self.
So the goal in transpersonal psychotherapy is not to just alleviate suffering, but to use this opportunity to bring about integration of different aspects of ourselves, including physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. This is achieved through an openness and acceptance of the client’s experience, and can include working creatively with dreams, images, art and other mediums.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt therapy is a type of therapy used to deepen our awareness of ourselves and our feelings in a less intellectual manner than the more traditional forms of therapy. “Gestalt” means the whole; it implies wholeness. In any experience or interaction there are feelings in the foreground and in the background.
The idea in Gestalt therapy is that all of us have had to repress or suppress aspects of ourselves because they were not accepted or supported. It is these aspects of ourselves or our feelings that end up in the background and can become unfinished business.
Gestalt therapy can help shed light on unfinished business by helping us to focus our awareness on our feelings (or lack of feelings) moment to moment. Once we recognize our unfinished business, (i.e. uncomfortable feelings, stuck patterns of behaviour, or ways in which we perceive ourselves and others that are based on our experiences as opposed to reality), we are better equipped to understand ourselves and to choose whether we want to make changes or not.

Mindfulness Counselling

enables you to explore the difficulties you are facing in life through the lens of mindfulness. Mindfulness counselling involves cultivating present moment awareness of both your internal environment, such as our thoughts, emotions and body sensations, as well as your external environment such as the world around you and your relationships with others. Mindfulness counselling cultivates your ability to live more in the present moment instead of ruminating on past memories or projecting into the future, both of which can evoke strong emotional charges. It enables you to develop trust, openness and acceptance of yourself. Mindfulness counselling offers the methods for psychological balance, inner transformation and growth as a person.

Matrix Reimprinting and EFT

EFT and Matrix Reimprinting can help you clear the emotions around past traumas, that may be lowering your emotional threshold and weakening your immune system. When we experience a trauma, a part of us splits off and dissociates. Often we can’t remember what has happened, while on another level we are reliving the traumatic event over and over again in our subconscious mind. Matrix reimprinting enables you to access these split off parts of ourselves, clear the trauma that they are holding, thus change the relationship to the life trauma. This technique is tremendously therapeutic. It obviously doesn’t change the past, but it changes your relationship to it completely. It changes the pictures in your mind and energy field, and ultimately the way you relate to those pictures.

Transactional Analysis

The idea that within each of us exists three key characteristics: the Parent, The Adult and The Child. Noticing how these are activated and ‘played out’ enables us to develop greater freedom and healthy control in our lives and to develop more productive relationships with others.

Cognitive Approach

The idea that we all see and experience things differently and truly help a person to deal with an issue, we need to understand the meaning that they give to a particular situation and ways that this meaning is both helpful and unhelpful. This then enables us to make any necessary changes.

Inner Child Work

Inner child is a concept used in popular psychology and Analytical psychology to denote the childlike aspect of a person’s psyche, especially when viewed as an independent entity. Frequently, the term is used to address subjective childhood experiences and the remaining effects of one’s childhood.
The inner child also refers to all of the emotional memory and experiences stored in the brain from earliest memory; The part of the psyche believed to retain feelings as they were experienced in childhood, which often ‘leaks’ out in our lives, causing us difficulties in our everyday life and our relationships.
